School gardens exist all over the world because gardening is a universal cultural activity. However, gardening methods differ according to geographical and climatic conditions, as well as regional traditions. School gardens can promote international and intercultural understanding because they exist everywhere but are slightly different everywhere. Through a school garden partnership, students can identify similarities and differences and gain access to other cultures through their shared interest in gardening. Students develop communication skills, especially foreign language skills, as well as skills related to education for sustainable development. This chapter is about school garden partnerships between schools in different countries. Of course, there are also school garden partnerships within the same country and between neighboring schools. Every “look over the garden fence” is enriching and full of surprises. However, the more geographically and culturally distant the partners are, the more exciting and challenging a partnership can be. North–South partnerships are particularly effective for global learning, but also the most challenging.

摘要
