It is hard to imagine what a nineteenth-century Danish figure could have to do with contemporary popular culture. Adding to the perplexity, this figure did not hold any long-standing office or carry any particular influence in his day. Søren Aabye Kierkegaard lived a relatively quiet life, writing books that received a mixed reception during his lifetime. He only lived to be 42, rarely leaving his native Denmark. He never had any students to carry his legacy, nor became the parish pastor he once contemplated. At first glance, there does not seem to be much justification for a work that addresses Kierkegaard and pop culture.
