Promoting Healthy Food Choices Through CSR: Advancing Social and Environmental Responsibility
摘要
The food industry’s commitment to healthier eating is no longer seen as a business choice, it has now become an essential part of CSR. Companies now acknowledge that public health, ethical practices, and sustainable development go hand in hand. This chapter looks at how health-focused initiatives, within the food industry go beyond the profits to tackle pressing issues such as obesity, poor nutrition, and over all well being. By investing in the creation and promotion of nutritious food options, businesses are not only empowering customers to make better dietary decisions but also a shift toward more sustainable and responsible food production. To ground this in practice, the research highlights how leading food companies have woven health-oriented values into their CSR frameworks. Efforts such as transparent food labelling, the use of clean and natural ingredients, ethical sourcing, and support for local farmers demonstrate how corporate choices can positively influence society. Community-driven approaches—like nutrition education programs and partnerships with health influencers—further amplify these efforts, creating a ripple effect that extends well beyond the marketplace. Yet, challenges remain. Ensuring affordability and widespread access to healthier options continues to be a major hurdle, particularly in diverse and resource-constrained markets. The study suggests that innovation, strategic partnerships, and consumer-focused strategies are critical in addressing these gaps. When done right, such approaches allow companies to balance commercial goals with genuine social responsibility. Promoting healthier food choices is more than a CSR checkbox—it is a powerful way to strengthen brand reputation, support community well-being, and contribute to a more sustainable future. In this sense, health-driven CSR is not just about doing good for business; it’s about doing good for people and the planet.
