The Interplay of Tuberous Sclerosis (TSC) Associated Neuropsychiatric Disorders (TAND) and Co-occurring Epilepsy
摘要
Tuberous Sclerosis Associated Neuropsychiatric Disorder (TAND) and epilepsy are common comorbidities of tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), affecting more than 90 and 80% of patients with TSC, respectively. Not only are the presenting symptoms of these conditions similar, but the severity of epilepsy may also be associated with more significant TAND symptoms. Currently, there are no preventative treatments for TAND; however, timely identification and management of TAND symptoms—as well as effective seizure control—may positively influence long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes and, in turn, improve TAND symptoms in individuals with TSC. Therefore, routine screening for TAND symptoms is essential to facilitate efficient diagnosis and comprehensive care for individuals with TSC.
