Asia-Pacific Perspectives on Solar Geoengineering
摘要
This chapter reviews research, governance activities, and public perceptions related to solar geoengineering with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region. Despite significant advances in research and governance, such activities are highly concentrated in high-income countries and biased toward the Global North. An emerging literature has revealed differences across geographies in terms of public perceptions, cultural traditions, and attitudes toward large-scale engineering. Some studies showed that the publics in the Global South are more open to the consideration of solar geoengineering than those from the Global North, though they are all cautious about research and deployment and in favor of global governance. Furthermore, Asia-Pacific regions have been pursuing various regional intervention research projects. To reflect diverse perspectives, this chapter argues for more inclusive research and governance discussion.
