Impact of Public Schemes on Women in Selected Areas of Coimbatore District: An Empirical Analysis

Women empowerment plays an important role in socio-economic development of the nation. Government of India has introduced various women related schemes to support their financial independence, entrepreneurship, health, education and their well-being, Effectiveness of these schemes depends purely on their accessibility, awareness about the scheme and their proper implementation. The study examine the impact of these government schemes on women in selected areas of Coimbatore district by analyzing their utilization, benefits and challenges faced by the beneficiaries of these schemes. The finding conclude that the schemes related to financial independence and employment such as Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), and Self-Help Groups (SHGs), have more impact than compared to health related schemes due to their complication procedure for applying the scheme. The research provides insights for the policymakers to redefine the existing policies and ensure that the government policies reach a women in a longer section and improve their empowerment.
