ChatGPT Satisfaction in Higher Education: Survey in a Private University in Malaysia

This study explores the usage satisfaction of ChatGPT, a sophisticated AI language model, among students at a private university in Malaysia. With the rising incorporation of artificial intelligence in education, mainly within higher education, this study discovers how ChatGPT influences student engagement, self-esteem, academic buoyancy, and self-control. The study intentions to offer understandings into how students interact with ChatGPT for academic purposes, inspecting factors such as frequency of use, satisfaction, and potential challenges. Data was collected from 438 students across various levels of study, using a descriptive survey to measure their involvements and satisfaction levels. The results exposed that overall student articulated moderate satisfaction with ChatGPT, mostly in areas of academic engagement and self-esteem, with female students reporting higher satisfaction. However, no significant differences were found in satisfaction based on academic year, level of study, or mode of study. A small proportion of students (6.8%) conveyed not once using ChatGPT, quoting factors such as lack of awareness, preference for traditional study methods, and concerns about the accuracy of AI-generated responses. The results feature the possible of ChatGPT to improve academic buoyancy and self-regulation, but more research is desired to discover its long-term effects on student learning, confidence, and overall academic outcomes. This study donates to understanding the developing role of AI in educational settings and delivers valuable visions for instructors and policymakers on the incorporation of AI tools in higher education.
