Euthanasia and assisted suicide have been discussed for decades. Despite this, several unresolved questions remain in the international debate, first and foremost whether or not there is a real right to die or to be assisted in dying. While in some European countries the slippery slope seems to have been taken that has led to the discussion in some parliaments of a right to euthanasia for life completed in other countries there is still no discipline on the point and requests for assistance in dying are left to case law. In this chapter, also through the analysis of the differences between the various European disciplines and on the basis of the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights, an attempt will be made to offer an overview of the state of the art of the debate at the European level by analysing and offering some useful food for thought on the subject of the slippery slope and the possible existence of a right to die.

摘要
