In this book, I have sought to provide a broad, albeit not exhaustive, overview of the challenges that contemporary times pose to gender equality, women’s human rights, and their empowerment on a global scale. These are difficult times, marked by complexity—a defining feature of the present era. We are witnessing a convergence of economic, health, geopolitical, climate, energy, and food crises, which interact and reinforce one another, acting as powerful multipliers of inequality, poverty, and social exclusion. Within this framework of polycrisis, women are disproportionately impacted by the multiple effects of these interlinked scenarios.
