With this chapter, the second section of the book begins, delving into the details of the steps backward and omissions for which everyone, governments and international bodies, bears responsibility in slowing down and hindering the full unfolding of women’s autonomous and free realisation capabilities and potentials. More specifically, in this chapter, the challenges and setbacks in the field of women’s sexual and reproductive health are addressed. This includes issues concerning the right to voluntary abortion, to equal and free participation in family planning with a partner, to equal access to education on sexuality, reproductive health, and methods for preventing sexually transmitted or blood-borne diseases, to counselling and psychological support services. Moreover, the specific challenges faced by women with disabilities in accessing healthcare services related to sexual and reproductive choices, as well as the limited and sometimes denied access to medical care for women—and more broadly, individuals—belonging to the LGBTQIA2+ community due to their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sexual characteristics are addressed. A final paragraph is dedicated to the impact on the health of women and girls caused by limited access to clean drinking water and adequate sanitary and hygiene services (menstrual rights) and the consequences on their education (early school dropout).

摘要
