How Nonbinary Thinkers Process Information: Using Postformal Operations to Promote Nonbinary Thinking About Cultural Diversity
摘要
The question arises, “how does a binary thinker learn to access nonbinary problem-solving thought?” Is it even possible to “teach” non-binary thinking, or is this something a person either has from birth, or at least from adolescence, or not? The answer holds a clue to many useful activities in the world, from conflict resolution, research innovation, interpersonal harmony, teaching strategies and communication styles, to growth of awareness beyond immediate daily life and physical reality (for example cosmology and spirituality). The secret is in using the postformal operations to “open” problems of any type so that new levels of resolution are possible. The result is gaining the ability to become “unstuck” from limited ways of thinking, problem-solving, and seeing the world.
