This chapter concludes the book: Agriculture and Sustainable Development in Africa: Resilience and Recovery Toward Sustainable Futures. This is achieved by revisiting the key issues raised by the chapters in the book regarding the state of African agriculture and food systems and how the resilience, recovery and transformation of these systems can be realised. The chapter draws from primary and secondary sources, particularly the chapters in this book, to identify continental and national policies and interventions related to agriculture and food systems. It also examines the impact of these policies and interventions. The chapter highlights the central role of governments in agricultural and food systems resilience, recovery and transformation. It demonstrates how African governments widely acknowledge the complex challenges faced by the agricultural sectors and food systems, as demonstrated by the several summits convened from year to year to deliberate on how the continent can deal with food insecurity in particular. Guided by the African Union (AU), African countries adopt and implement several agricultural and food-related policies and interventions to boost resilience and recovery, as well as facilitate the transformation of regional and national agriculture and food systems. This chapter posits that the various agricultural and food security summits and declarations championed by the AU and numerous sub-regional and national policies and initiatives across African countries showcase the political economy of agricultural and food systems. It concludes that interventions in African agriculture and food systems should be diverse and blended. These blended approaches should always be guided by a strong political will of regional and national governments.

摘要
