This chapter introduces the concepts of flow testing of hydrants. Flow testing is the best way to determine the available water supply at a given location. Flow tests must result in a static pressure, residual pressure, and measured flow. Test results may be analyzed graphically or mathematically to determine the adequacy of existing water supplies. The results may also be modified with proper corrections for friction loss and changes in elevation to other locations.
