This chapter introduces three techniques to calculate exterior hose stream requirements for exterior fire fighting, including the Iowa State, National Fire Academy, and ISO methods. Additionally, the International Fire Code method is also introduced. The concepts of standpipes and hoses in accordance with NFPA 14 are introduced including the typical requirements. A method of estimating water flow requirements for sprinkler systems is introduced.
