Spain’s Evolving Identity: Regional, National, and European Dimensions

The given work is devoted to studying the process of formation of multilevel identityMultilevel identity in Spain. The research set the following goals: consider key theoretical approaches to studying the phenomenon of multilevel identityIdentity; outline the historical background and legal framework for the formation of identity in Spain; analyze the formation of identity in Spain after the creation of the EU. The work was carried out on the basis of studies of the Eurobarometer and Barometer of Spain, where a significant part of the statistical material was collected: the prevailing level of identity of Spaniards, changes in the self-awareness of residents over the past 20 years. The prerequisites for the formation and the process of formation of European identityEuropean identity, Spanish national and regional identities were examined. As a result, each level of identity was studied and the ways they interact and combine into a multilevel identityMultilevel identity were analyzed. It was revealed that about 63% of the country’s population have multilevel self-awareness.
