In this regard, the relevance of the environmental consciousness formation as a significant resource for motivating human behavior in hybrid socio-natural environments increases. The purpose of this chapter is to examine the circumstances influencing environmental awareness in individuals in the contemporary world. Additionally, we explore the prevailing views shaping the context of environmental cultureCulture among students in St. Petersburg. The study is conducted within the framework of a systemic methodology that allows combining the principle of the environmental imperativeEnvironmental imperative of sustainable developmentSustainable Development (SD) with theories of social psychology. In an empirical study based on statistical survey data, the typology of environmental cultureCulture in the youth environment of St. Petersburg is revealed. It is emphasized that the contextual model for the development of environmental consciousness is linked to ecological cultureEcological culture, providing a semantic framework for individuals’ orientation in socio-natural life conditions. This framework aims to change people's behavior by influencing their fundamental attitudes toward protecting the environment.
