Cooperation of the EAEU Member States with China: Problems and Prospects

The paper aims to assess the current level of interaction between the EAEUEurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Member StatesState and ChinaChina, which received a new impetus in 2022. The rapprochement between the EAEU and the Belt and RoadBelt and Road InitiativeBelt and Road Initiative (BRI) has been actively discussed for many years, reflecting the parties’ motivation to achieve closer economic integrationIntegration through the implementation of joint projects, including the Greater EurasiaGreater Eurasia concept. According to Chinese President Xi JinpingXi Jinping, the EAEU–China interaction has “good growth dynamics” and cooperationCooperation has “huge potential.” The political will of the parties to develop established ties plays a big role in strengthening the relations. Current tradeTrade and economic indicators also show positive dynamics and have great potential. The paper presents the existing problems and prospects of cooperation between the EAEU and China, and suggests possible ways of transition from “5 + 1” to “1 + 1” cooperation.
