Analysis and Evaluation of the Impact of Walkability in Mexico City
摘要
This study analyses the impact of walkability in Mexico City by evaluating both the physical conditions of the urban environment and the factors that constrain pedestrian mobility. A multicriteria methodology is proposed, based on spatial analysis tools and open-access data within a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) environment. This aims to construct a model that captures urban reality from a pedestrian-oriented perspective. The findings reveal an uneven distribution of walkable environments, shaped not only by the configuration of urban space but also by the specific needs and vulnerabilities of different pedestrian profiles. By integrating both enhancing and inhibiting factors, the model enables a nuanced understanding of walkability across diverse contexts. This research supports the identification of priority areas for intervention and facilitates the evaluation of how various spatial and social factors affect the pedestrian experience. Altogether, the methodology provides a technical and conceptual foundation for urban planning that enhances pedestrian mobility and promotes more sustainable, liveable, and socially inclusive cities.
