Achievements and Challenges of the Threatened Species Management Programs: Interviews with Stakeholders
摘要
This chapter presents a series of transcribed interviews that were held with government officials and nongovernmental stakeholders. They participated in the recovery projects of threatened species in Mexico between 1997 and 2007. This was the first period of participatory management of threatened species at the national scale in Mexico. Here, the vision of the government officials who conceived and developed these initiatives is compiled, as well as the testimonies of several members of the advisory committees who collaborated with the government. From an analysis of the interviews, topics of strategic planning, budget allocation for federal programs, decision-making, program implementation, and societal participation are discussed. These interviews provide a broad overview of the design and operation of the threatened species program, with a wealth of information that has not been previously documented.
