This investigation explores issues of the usage of AI applications in news production processes among Jordanian journalists. It is a descriptive study, which followed the survey method by utilizing a questionnaire administered to the accessible population of 346 Jordanian journalists. Findings reveal great enthusiasm from journalists about integrating AI technologies into media practice. But there were also daunting obstacles, mainly technical and economic. From the journalist’s viewpoint, the most important technical impediments are lack of knowledge and training in AI tools, and economical impediments are the low levels of salaries, which obstruct access to emerging technologies. The study also demonstrates important requirements that are necessary to ensure the successful application of AI in media production, such as faster internet and wider coverage, which will help AI applications to work better and assist in creating better quality content. Some of the key recommendations are to encourage participation in online AI training, to create media-tech partnerships for affordable AI tools, and to encourage open-source AI systems. Further, investment in the right hardware and software infrastructure is critical to enabling responsible AI. The study is of the view that addressing these challenges needs collaborative support from instructional, organizational and technological fronts.
