This chapter will highlight common behavioral health (BH) considerations and concerns for three developmental stages of pediatric practice: the peripartum and early childhood periods, middle childhood, and adolescence. The fields of infant BH and developmental psychopathology provide guidance on how to identify risk factors for the development of BH problems, as well as strategies to mitigate these risk factors to promote social emotional well-being (Zeanah, Handbook of infant mental health. Guilford Publications, New York, 2018). Specific BH concerns in school-aged children and adolescents are often the focus of pediatric BH; however, the root of these concerns begins early. Therefore, understanding mutable risk factors and the early emergence of BH concerns early in life empowers primary care providers (PCPs) to identify opportunities to bend the curve of the pediatric mental health crisis. In this chapter, we provide a cross-cutting framework for providers to identify core strategies to promote social emotional health and guide them on how to manage emerging concerns and BH disorders.

摘要
