Millets for Food Security

The present world is struggling for growing food and feeding the population. The availability of nutritional and enough food to all is still a major challenge that whole world is facing today. To overcome these problems, millets can be the best substitute. Millets are generally small-sized cereal grains commonly cultivated in India and in some part of Africa. These small-grain crops have earned the name of Nutri-cereals. Beside this, climate change, low rainfall, and high temperature have an immediate effect on food security. It makes millets more popular as it contributes in food security. This chapter is about the role of millets in food security, i.e., how millets can be a source of staple food, nutritional value of millets, benefits and challenges of growing millets, and their comparison with other major millets. This chapter also provides an overview of current food security issues and how to overcome food security.
