Multidisciplinary Care Clinics for Patients with Metastatic Bone Disease
摘要
The treatment of metastatic bone disease (MBD) requires a team of specialists, including orthopedic, medical oncology, palliative medicine, radiologists, interventional radiologists, and radiation oncology providers as well as pharmacists and rehab specialists. Managing multiple appointments and coordinating care with specialists can be challenging. Multidisciplinary clinics aim to ease this burden by through coordinated appointments and care pathways. This approach can reduce costs, improve patient satisfaction, expedite access to clinical trials, and promote unified treatment plans. Orthopedic oncologists play a vital role in the development and management of these clinics, as the orthopedist is often the diagnosing and/or triaging provider. This chapter covers the benefits and challenges encountered when establishing multidisciplinary MBD clinics and the critical specialists involved in coordinating comprehensive care for a patient with MBD.
