After the introduction of long-acting injectable medications for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, medications for the treatment of substance use disorder were quickly formulated into this long-acting formulation. Unfortunately, many treatment facilities do not regularly offer these treatment options due to stigma, fear, and regulations associated with prescribing. This chapter seeks to provide insight into the place of therapy for these agents, describing the advantages and disadvantages of the various agents available.
