In this chapter, I will discuss Bordin’s (Psychotherapy: Theory. Research and Practice 16: 252–260, 1979). concept of the working alliance and my addition to it (Dryden, Counselling in a Nutshell. Sage,.2006, Counselling in a Nutshell. Sage, 2nd ed., 2011) and show how it informs the practice of REBT. In my view, if you keep this concept—and its components—to the forefront of your mind, then it will enhance the effectiveness of your practice of REBT and minimise the obstacles that you and your client are likely to encounter during the REBT process.
