Technology continues to advance at an unprecedented pace, and its role in surf ecosystem conservation is increasingly significant. This chapter examines how innovative tools can be leveraged to safeguard waves and coastal ecosystems in the Anthropocene, where surf-centric communities face mounting threats from climate change, coastal development, and pollution. Examples from practitioner experience include the Surf Conservation Index, which combines satellite data with ecological, social, and economic indicators to prioritize conservation efforts, and the Save The Waves App, a citizen science platform that empowers surfers and coastal stewards to report and respond to threats in real time. Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and remote sensing, and innovative uses of financial mechanisms are also explored for their potential to transform monitoring, valuation, and resilience-building strategies. While no technology alone can protect surf ecosystems, these tools—when aligned with local leadership, global collaboration, and effective stewardship—offer powerful ways to build resilience and preserve the cultural, ecological, and economic value of surf ecosystems. This chapter underscores that technology is not inherently good or bad; its impact depends on how it is built, applied, and whether it strengthens communities’ ability to protect the places they love.
