This chapter deals with forcesForce that can change an object’s state of motion. There are six simple machines that allow us to change the magnitude or direction of forcesForce. These are: a lever; a wheel; a pulley; a screw, an inclined plane; and a wedge. All of these are important in how we control the motion of moving objects. Some of the themes of the chapter are represented in Figs. 2.1, 2.3 and 2.4.
