The theories of modern physics discussed in the previous chapter are critical to our understanding of matterMatter. In this final chapter we will discuss what matterMatter is made of. Physicists have now been able to identify the elementary particles that make up all the known matterMatter in creation but no one knows how they were made or where they came from. In addition there is evidence for “dark matterMatter” that is a completely unknown substance. Some of the themes of the chapter are represented in Fig. 16.1. Note that atoms can be identified by the wavelengths that they absorb and emit light.

摘要

The theories of modern physics discussed in the previous chapter are critical to our understanding of matterMatter. In this final chapter we will discuss what matterMatter is made of. Physicists have now been able to identify the elementary particles that make up all the known matterMatter in creation but no one knows how they were made or where they came from. In addition there is evidence for “dark matterMatter” that is a completely unknown substance. Some of the themes of the chapter are represented in Fig. 16.1. Note that atoms can be identified by the wavelengths that they absorb and emit light.
