This chapter describes a multitude of biases that may occur throughout the visual data analysis process, informed by process models in machine learning, cognitive psychology, and visualization literature described in Chap. 2. We first provide an overview of potential sources of bias in visual data analysis, then zoom in to more specifically describe human biases from the perspective of cognitive and metacognitive deficits.
