Ecofriendly Management of Root Pathogens: Evaluating Citrus sinensis and Momordica charantia Peels Extracts on Sunflower Growth
摘要
Peel of fruits when added to soil, supplied more nutrients to crops compared to chemical fertilizers as fruits contain a high content of antioxidants. Present research deals with the utilization of peels extract for the improvement in growth of crop plants. Citrus sinensis and Momordica charantia peels were extracted and assessed against root rot pathogens by means of paper disc diffusion method and agar well diffusion assay. C. sinensis peel extract showed greater antifungal activity at 100% w/v concentration against Fusarium oxysporum, Macrophomina phaseolina and Rhizoctonia solani followed by 75% concentration. Both peels powder was used as soil amendment, while extracts used as seed treatment and soil drenching under screen house condition. In field application, out of these three methods, seed treatment at 100% w/v extract of M. charantia showed excellent control of root infecting fungi and enhance the growth and physiological content of sunflower plant compared to C. sinensis extract.
