The fascinating world of fungal-based cosmetics and their potential as anti-tyrosinase agents are explained in this chapter. The cosmetic industry is interested in inhibiting tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in melanin formation, to fight hyperpigmentation disorders. Fungi, known for their diverse secondary metabolites, have demonstrated promising bioactive compounds that may contribute to skin-lightening properties. The importance of tyrosinase inhibition in skincare is understood in this chapter. Common tyrosinase inhibitors were discussed: inhibitors produced from microorganisms, aldehydes and their derivatives, and plant-based substances (particularly polyphenols). The relationship between fungus-based inhibitors’ anti-tyrosinase activities and skin hyperpigmentation was also presented. To solve the problem of hyperpigmentation, the chapter explains how fungi-derived inhibitors may be crucial in controlling the creation of melanin. A practical case of Kojic acid in cosmetics was discussed. This chapter advances our understanding of natural cosmetic chemicals, but they also open the door for the creation of novel, potent products that address skin pigmentation issues.

摘要
