Fungi, or mushroom, possess approximately 130 therapeutic properties including antitumor, immunomodulatory, antigenotoxic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antihypertensive, antihyperglycemic, and antimicrobial activities. Fungi can serve as an unlimited source of numerous bioactive compounds such as phenolics, terpenoids, selenium, polysaccharides, vitamins, etc. which are beneficial for skin. In recent days, cosmetic industry constantly searches for natural compounds with antioxidant, antiaging, skin whitening, and moisturizing properties for topical and oral administration. Therefore, diverse fungi with nutritive and medicinal efficiency can serve as potent agent in cosmetic industry as cosmeceuticals and nutricosmetics. This chapter provides overview of some currently used common edible fungi enriched with various valuable bioactive compounds governing anti-hyaluronidase, anti-collagenase, antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase, antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory potential that facilitates their usage as natural ingredients for cosmetic formulations.
