Fungal Carotenoids and Their Cosmeceutical Effects on Human Bodies
摘要
Carotenoids are lipid-soluble natural amalgams, including fungi, assured bacteria, algae, and plants. In fungi, carotenoids are widely distributed across various taxonomic classifications. These pigments have garnered interest due to their antioxidant assets and their role in helping fungi survive in their natural environment. Biotechnological methods offer a more efficient way to produce carotenoids compared to chemical synthesis or plant extraction. This chapter focuses on industrially significant carotenoids in advanced fungal and yeast strains, discussing genetic modification for heightened production and proposing greener extraction methods, the different pathways of β-carotene and carotenoids biosynthesis, and potential applications of carotenoids.
