This chapter examines the intersection of motivation and creativity, focusing on the motivational forces that drive creative individuals. Two major streams of current research are reviewed: the application of broader motivational theories to creativity and the development of creativity-specific motivational constructs. The chapter concludes by highlighting emerging directions for research on the motivations of creative individuals, calling for further development of creativity-native motivational constructs to obtain a more grounded understanding of the motivational dynamics underlying creativity.
