Infantile cerebral palsy (CP) is a complex disorder which is neither limited to motor disability nor to the simple association between motor disability and possible disorders of other functions but is currently considered a result of the interaction between different residual motor, sensorial, perceptive or cognitive abilities, or functions, and their adaptative transformation grounded on evolution, that is to say a “continuously evolving disability of an individual who is continuously evolving.” The issue of visual-perceptive development (and its disorders) in CP must be viewed within this framework, also considering the central role it plays in child neuromotor, cognitive, and affective development, thus becoming the first tool for the interaction with the surrounding world. We briefly described what are the instruments for assessing basic functions that allow us to assess children of all age groups (0 months to 18 years) and also with cognitive difficulties that are mainly behavioral methods. Moreover, a little space has been dedicated to cerebral visual impairment both in terms of definition and in describing the tools that can help us identify it and to the correlation between lesion and visual function.
