Indigenous construction methods (ICMs) and appropriate technology play crucial roles in sustainable development, particularly in regions with limited resources or facing environmental challenges. ICM offers valuable insights and solutions for building energy decarbonization. This is particularly of utility in regions where cultural heritage, environmental sustainability, and energy access intersect. These practices together with modern technologies and best practices create an environment for low-carbon and resilient buildings. Often, the perception of modernity, economic constraints, and limited skilled training hampers mainstreaming ICM within developing countries. This chapter delves into the challenges facing the uptake of ICM and appropriate technology in combating building energy decarbonization. The overarching aim of this discussion is based on how all these can help achieve building energy decarbonization. The context of the study is situated within the developing country and focuses on how the peculiar challenges facing these countries. The major contribution of the study is the unique pathways provided towards overcoming these challenges.
