The incidence of climate change and its antecedents calls for innovative solutions. The building envelope plays a key role in thermal efficiency while reducing the carbon foot print. As a result, emerging circular materials and the construction of the same are imperatives in driving the decarbonization challenge. Hemp-based concrete, recycled-based and bio-based materials are some of the emerging materials that hold significant potential in meeting the current global challenge. However, issues such as high initial costs, inadequate building regulations, and codes and paucity of research limit the uptake of these innovative solutions. This chapter explores the various emerging circular materials and delves into discussion on the barriers to the uptake of the circular materials. The study further explores how opportunities can be harnessed in the use of these materials and proffers solutions to mitigate against the challenges. The chapters asserts that government incentives and research will play a pivotal role in overcoming the perceived challenges. Cultural barriers and low demand can be overcome through raising public awareness and targeted campaigns. Moreover, the uptake and use of emerging materials would require a relook at the total value chain with a particular focus on overcoming supply chain challenges.
