Daylighting
摘要
Daylighting studies in developing countries are crucial for understanding how natural light can be effectively utilized in building design to enhance visual comfort, reduce energy consumption, and improve overall occupant well-being. These studies focus on assessing daylight availability, distribution, and quality in diverse climatic, socio-economic, and cultural contexts found in developing countries. Despite the key role they play daylight studies and regulations are not advanced in most developing countries. While some countries have well developed regulations, others outdated and some still have none in place. In this chapter, the benefits of daylighting to building decarbonization are discussed. The chapter highlights the paucity of comprehensive data and research on daylighting performance and its impact on energy consumption in African contexts. Limited empirical evidence makes it challenging to develop evidence-based policies, standards, and design guidelines tailored to local conditions. Pathways for developments including investing in research initiatives and data collection efforts can provide valuable insights for energy decarbonization in Africa.
