The abundance of solar energy and its accessibility hold strong potential in addressing the fight against climate change and energy poverty. The adoption and uptake of solar energy provide a profound opportunity to create a more sustainable and resilient region. There is also the added advantage of greatly reducing the huge dependence on fossil fuel and limiting the environmental impact of the same. Despite these numerous advantages the limited access to financing, weak energy infrastructure support for solar energy, and low technical expertise militates against the usage of this renewable energy. This chapter explores the barriers to the use of solar-based renewable energy and situates it within the context of the African building energy market. The chapter also provides pathways to drive the uptake of solar-based renewables within the continent.

摘要
