This chapter discusses the governance of the bioeconomy. The first section introduces the concept of governance. The second section introduces the organisations of the public, private, and third sectors that play a role in the bioeconomy and discusses their interaction. The subject of the third section is the process of designing bioeconomy strategies. The fourth section deals with bioeconomy strategies as an important instrument of biodiversity governance. A competitiveness framework is used to classify different elements of the bioeconomy strategies. The final section discusses the governance challenges that the bioeconomy is confronted with.
