Bridging the Gap Between Visibility and Excellence: A Bibliometric Analysis of Hungarian Research in Business, Management and Accounting
摘要
Academic visibility and excellence are key indicators in evaluating research performance, especially in higher education. Visibility refers to the inclusion of publications in indexed databases and open access platforms, while excellence is reflected in high citation counts and presence in top-ranked journals. This study examines the publication performance of Hungarian universities in the fields of economics, management, and accounting between 2019 and 2023. Using bibliometric data from Scopus and Web of Science, we compare Hungary’s output to that of Austria and the Visegrád countries, focusing on metrics such as Q-ranking distribution, citation frequency, and the presence of highly cited articles. The results reveal that while Hungarian institutions have improved their visibility, they lag significantly behind in excellence, with few high-impact publications. This structural gap suggests the need for targeted institutional and policy-level interventions to enhance research quality and international recognition.
