AR-Institure: Enhancing Sustainable Manufacturing Practices Through Gamified Augmented Reality

Integrating sustainability principles into advanced manufacturing has become particularly vital given contemporary environmental challenges. This study explores the integration of Augmented Reality (AR) technology into educational tours, focusing on high school students visiting the Advanced Manufacturing Institute. An innovative application combining interactive gamification with AR was developed, allowing visitors to scan 3D models and receive real-time information about sustainable technologies. The research investigates AR’s impact on visitor engagement, comprehension, and sustainability in advance manufacturing. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study analyzes quantitative and qualitative data from surveys and application usage. Results show significant increases in engagement, improved understanding of manufacturing concepts, and greater interest in recycling. The study demonstrates AR’s potential to enhance educational experiences by bridging physical tours with digital learning environments. This research contributes to the field of technology-enhanced learning, offering insights for educators and policymakers on designing immersive educational experiences. It highlights both the opportunities and challenges of integrating AR into learning, paving the way for future studies at the intersection of immersive technologies and experiential learning.
