Cerebral Ischemia in Children
摘要
Stroke in children, though uncommon, represents a significant health concern, ranking among the top ten causes of mortality and long-term neurological impairment in this population. While recanalization therapies have significantly advanced the treatment of arterial ischemic stroke in adults, their application in pediatric care remains challenging. These challenges stem from several factors, including the rarity of pediatric stroke, the complexity of differential diagnosis, and the limited availability of prospective studies. Furthermore, the underlying etiologies in children differ substantially from those in adults. Whereas atherosclerosis is a predominant risk factor in adult strokes, pediatric strokes are more frequently associated with cardioembolic sources and arteriopathies. Clinical manifestations of stroke may also vary between children and adults, further complicating timely diagnosis and intervention. These differences underscore the urgent need for research and clinical trials specifically designed for pediatric populations. Despite these obstacles, increasing awareness of acute treatment options and ensuring rapid and accurate diagnosis can significantly enhance patient outcomes. Educating healthcare providers and the public about pediatric stroke is crucial for facilitating early detection and intervention, ultimately improving recovery prospects and mitigating the long-term impact on children’s health and development.
