An Introduction to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The Sustainable Development GoalsSustainable development goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 10, are intended to alleviate inequalityInequality within and between countries. This chapter presents an overview of the key concepts of social justiceSocial justice, intersectionalityIntersectionality, and social inequalitySocial inequality, as well as the connections between these frameworks in terms of global development goals. This chapter emphasises the importance of multidisciplinaryMultidisciplinary investigation in understanding the complexities of inequalityInequality by examining the social, economic, and political aspects that contribute to disparities. It examines what happened in four countries: South AfricaSouth Africa, GermanyGermany, IndiaIndia, and MalaysiaMalaysia. This demonstrates that different strategies and promises are required to make the SDGs effective in each country. This chapter also discusses the importance of international academic networksNetworks in fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and policy influence in order to make the world a more equitable place.
