How to Approach the AU’s External Partnerships: Lessons from the AUBP and a Proposed Way Forward
摘要
This final chapter summarises the findings of this book and proposes a conceptualisation of the AUBP, thus providing an answer to the overarching question of how to understand this key AU programme. It presents the empirical findings on first the foundation and functioning of the AUBP, second the inner life of the AU Commission and third the partnership between the AU and GIZ. Furthermore, the chapter discusses implications for the theoretical debate on how to study the AU and its programmes in a meaningful way and proposes pathways to make sense of its external partnerships which have largely remained a “black box” in scholarship thus far. In doing so, the book gives a fresh impetus to broader academic and policy reflections on how regional organisations in the Global South as well as their partnerships can be studied and better understood.
