Folding Furniture: An Innovative Product of Ancient Egypt Historical Development, Design, and Use
摘要
This paper investigates the origin and historical development of foldable furniture items in Ancient Egypt through a descriptive-analytical approach presenting a deep insight into the types, designs, and techniques applied in various folding furniture items such as folding beds, chairs, stools, headrests, according to documented archaeological evidence and iconographical representations. The study also focuses on analyzing the social context interpreting the use of folding furniture in various frameworks such as in a number of outdoor activities within agricultural and industrial contexts as well as in hunting and military expeditions. Furthermore the research aims to highlight the skills of the ancient Egyptian craftsmen crediting the ancient Egyptian industry with innovative folding furniture products, a concept to be adapted later by further ancient civilizations.
