MauFish app is a smart fish identification app that significantly contributes to the Mauritius blue economy by integrating artificial intelligence, mobile technology, and marine science. By providing an efficient, user-friendly fish identification tool, the app enables a wide range of users, from scientists, conservationists to hobbyists, fishermen and tourists, to engage more deeply in Mauritius’ marine fish species. Compared to other existing apps and research, the real-time image recognition feature coupled with geotagging, offline mode and user contributions makes it a practical tool for field use by the different stakeholders. Uses the latest state-of-the-art image recognition algorithms, AI techniques and mobile technology. The prototype developed provided very conclusive results which can be scaled further to incorporate all the fish species in the Mauritian waters.
