Uncovering the Drivers of Urbanization in Serbia: An Econometric Investigation
摘要
This study examines the factors influencing the attractiveness of 24 Serbian cities from 2011 to 2021, aiming to address gaps in understanding beyond economic determinants. Employing panel regression analysis on a sample of 24 Serbian cities from 2011 to 2021, we investigate the impact of employment, wages, transportation, culture, crime, healthcare, and education on urban attractiveness. Our findings imply the significance of employment opportunities, cultural amenities, and transportation accessibility in enhancing urban attractiveness. As expected, high crime rates significantly reduce city’s appeal, emphasizing the crucial role of safety in urban development. Healthcare and education did not emerge as significant determinants of urban appeal in our analysis. This study’s novelty lies in its comprehensive examination of diverse factors shaping urban attractiveness. By highlighting the multifaceted nature of urban attractiveness, our research offers insights for more holistic urban planning strategies, promoting safer, more vibrant, and economically resilient cities. The insights could be useful for policymakers and urban planners striving to create cities that are not only economically prosperous but also liveable and appealing to residents.
