Language educators are finding the communicative affordances of online venues particularly productive in fueling their students’ target language acquisition. In this chapter we examine the communicative affordances of Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) and how online language professionals design and orchestrate language acquisition processes, assessments and outcomes therein. Illustrations of instructional designs that generate integrated student assessments and achievements are detailed within a task-based language assessment framework.
