In 1960 Sergio rented a small two-story red brick house in Georgetown, at 1531 Thirty-fourth Street, next to Volta Place Park, with a nice little garden at the back. Built at the end of the eighteenth century and typical of that airy, tree-lined area adjacent to the capital, it would remain her residence until her death in 1989. At the time, many Washington notables lived in the area, starting with John F. Kennedy who, after being elected President of the United States, traveled from his mansion in Georgetown to the Capitol on January 20, 1961, for his inauguration speech.
